Welcome another amazing year at Towers. I’d like to introduce myself--my name is Thalia Commins and I am the “green parent”. In addition to recycling your used batteries, crayons, and clean up events, this year, I am looking into participation in the 2014-15 Trash Free Lunch Challenge! This is through the Grades of Green Program, and officially begins with a Training Event at the Sanitations District of LA County on Wednesday, September 17th from 9:30-1:00p.m., and you still have time to register (see the attached invitation). This training covers best practices for going Trash Free, a composting training and a tour of the Puente Hills Materials Recovery Facility (which is truly eye opening). And if that didn’t sound awesome enough, there will be lunch!
If you can’t make it, I am always looking for parents, (and possibly teachers, campus aides), to become Green Team members. If you are interested, or want to share any green ideas that you and your student bring to the school, please send your name and contact information to me. Feel free to call, or email me with questions or ideas anytime. I am listed on the PTA roster on the Towers website (orBigGreenParent@thaliac.com)
